Product Overview
Lazar TMU-8 Temperature Recorder is a compact, 8-channel (expandable to 64 channels) analog PC-based data acquisition system, designed for accuracy, versatility, and simplicity. Ulitizing the RS-232 serial communications port found in most PCs (portable or stationary), allows the system to be located close to the measurement source minimizing environmental noise that may cause data contamination. The digitized results are transmitted and available for on-line monitoring, reporting, analyzing, archiving or exporting for analysis using third party application software.
The Lazar TMU-8 software was designed with the user in mind emphasizing menu driven operation and on-screen help that contributes to the ease of use. All user controlled parameters - input assignments, input names, sampling rates, names and location of files, data ranges, graph parameters, etc. - can be saved in setup files for easy recall and the user designates the appropriate setup used when the program is restarted. The software is DOS based but can be run in the Windows multitasking environment,
Typical Applications
- Process Monitoring
The temperature data logger is used extensively in industries such as food processing, manufacturing, printing, metallurgy, etc. where critical process variables (temperature, pressure, etc.) may adversely affect the results of the process. Continuous monitoring records the process, and user-defined alarm limits immediately alert the operator of extreme conditions that require attention. In the event of power interruptions the system automatically resumes monitoring the process at the preset conditions.
- Quality Control
Light ballast manufacturers have been using the temperature data logger in testing the temperature rise in the casing and ensuring UL certification. Oven manufacturers test their ovens to ensure proper temperature gradients throughout the chamber. Another interesting application includes the measurement of operating temperatures of chain saw mufflers, ensuring safety against injury and fire. The 64 channel version of the temperature data logger is used to check the temperatures in bread baking machines guanranteeing consistency in product quality.
- Field Testing
Manufacturers of printed circuit board production equipment use the temperature data logger with portable PCs to periodically test existing installations and verify the quality of their equipment. Experimental agricultural stations have used the temperature data logger to make long term studies of soil temperature and its effect on plant growth. A most unusual field testing application belongs to a power company that checks the moisture content of coal which may affect its weight at time of purchase and therefore the price they pay,
- Environmental Monitoring
The temperature data logger has been used to study the effectiveness of a water treatment plant by making before and after studies of key factors such as turbidity. The data logger may also be used in remote weather station locations where the data can be transmitted with a modem to a central monitoring station. In matters of the environment, the flexibility, and portablitiy of the system are evident and well appreciated.
- Research and Development
The temperature data logger is found in laboratories where product development is essential such as in automotive engine tests, as well as climate and comfort zone improvements. A chemical firm used the data logger to record temperatures of element samples undergoing GC analysis. In other applications, engineering is characterizing the effect of temperature on material strength and elasticity.
- Manfacturing
From process control, to product quality evaluation, to packaging and pasteurizing of food related products the importance of continuous monitoring of critical process variables is evident. The temperature data logger is a tool that simplifies the task of monitoring, reporting and analyzing such data while making the process easy to understand hand control. In manufacturing applications the the Lazar temperature data logger contributes to high quality standards and improved efficiencies.
